Bala, Athibala mantra and its significance
Bala Athibala Ramayana is the first and foremost poetry written in sanskrit and so it is called as adi kavya. It is written by Valmiki and he is named as adi kavi. There are totally 24000 verses among the 7 parts of the kavya. These 7 parts are called kandas. Sage Viswamitra known for his high power, great penance and anger took Rama and lakshmana to his ashrama in forests for the protection of the yagnas from demons thaataki, maricha and subaahu. During this viswamitra made them learn different powerful mantras. he taught them sandhya vandanam and made rama and lakshmana to do it trikalam every day (3 times a day. during sunrise, noon and sunset). During this period, inorder to make rama and lakshmana resist the hunger, sage vishwamitra gave them a mantra called Bala Athibala which makes the saadhaka sit for a very long time with out getting distracted with an idea of starving.
